| The Maserati GranTurismo made it’s worldwide debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008. Styled by Pininfarina it is the best looking Maserati for a very long time. It looks like it means business, being both masculine and sporty at the same time. The duality of the car carried over into the way it drives. It is both a useable, every day car and a car capable of rewarding the driver of near supercar performance with 0.60 sprints in the low 5′s and a top speed in excess of 170mph. It’s not going to catch the Ferrari F430 or 458 Italia, but it doesn’t hang around too much either. Oh and by the way, the Maserati will do it with 4 people on board, which is not something the Ferraris can claim.
The current Maserati GranTurismo carries on a tradition of GT cars produced by the company going back to the original GranTurismo in 1947, also styled by Pinin Farina, which was Maserati’s first road car. Even then it was applauded for it’s style and sophistication, and the new car is no exception to those ideals. |
